Devlog 1

Hi! Welcome to the devlogs!

We'll be putting out updates on what happens every week of development, or at least the most exciting stuff.

So, here are our earliest developments:

Art

The first week's concept art gets down a lot of crucial visual information - the broad strokes of our art style.

The UI sketches are, in a way, fairly dry. Either two colours or two colours with neighbours, their simple palettes draw emphasis to the use of angles - in each of these sketches only a single object is aligned to the screen, giving the whole element a sense of motion, excitement, and momentum.

With some basic visuals ready, next is...

Programming

Before anything else comes the player controller.

The player movement is standard four-direction-and-jump with an additional dash ability and wallrunning, telegraphed by fake datamoshing and camera tilt effects, respectively.

We added a melee attack...

And a ranged weapon. (no visuals for either yet, but their states are listed in the lowermost debug text)

Finally, aerial navigation for our flying enemies.

'Til next week

That's not all we did this week, but I want to try and keep these all to similar lengths, so see you then.
